Hi everyone!

Been at this mad mad hobby for about 20odd years now and still totally lovin it! Just planning the next one... ...gonna be a 25G natural (as possible) system. hoping to use NSW too...

One 'minor' problem is that the coast near me has a clay overlying cretaceous chalks so the water can have a high turbidity at times and i really don't want to run it through a floss first as this will remove plankton too...

You only fill your tank once. So go ahead and filter. You won't need to do any water changes if you run your scrubber properly.
